I'm sorry my pov. I love many aspects of luxury that makes sense but a lot of people in this comment section are being dismissive to the luxury houses sweat shops 😂. How can you say "oh I bought it BEFORE the videos came out" where is your deductive reasoning? The day the video came out was not the day they began the sweat shops 😂. I've made my peace that if luxury customers act so offended to see others wearing the same genuine bag as them then honestly that exclusive slightly selfish attitude couldn't really transcend into caring for sweat shop under paid immigrants and child labour. If you want to feel better than someone in the street then how could a sweat shop worker reach your radar?!

I will sell all my designer bags, no logos, quiet luxury, supporting local shops , that would be better , wouldn't it ?

All the lux bags have fallen from grace. I was never into the name, only the style. I have one real bag. I seldom wore it out for fear of damaging it or running it into the ground (she's wearing her one bag again). So afterward when I traveled to Shanghai I would buy the fakes. I feel better about actually using them and I can get as many as I like. They also come with the same certificates as the real one. I am guessing they came directly from the factory, just never made it to the shops. P.S. exclusivity was never a thought for me when I decide to buy something. I find that a bit sad. Especially now that we know the brands are price gouging.

I have worked for a small-scale Italian fashion house as business-market developer, the owner didn't have a clue about brand pillars as he was so focused on producing on behalf of other much established brands which were selling the goods at 6x the price paid to this guy. There wasn't any labour exploitation going on, but this shows that in the fashion space wins who is able to create a solid brand identity, hence a global marketing strategy and a vertical and horizontal distribution strategy. I would suggest anyone who has the means to buy from small-scale artisan producers, rather than those corporations. On a side note, I used to be a huge fan of Roche Posay products, but since the company is now within the the L'Oréal portfolio the quality has dropped and the prices risen. Proper connoisseurs are usually into scoring niche brands which provide a better quality assurance regarding the uniqueness of the pieces as their selling point.

There is nothing balenciaga can do to draw me back in. Thankfully, I sold my only balenciaga item a few weeks before the scandal. I don’t even look at what they’re selling.

I'm in Canada and the Balenciaga at Yorkdale is large and bare (iykyk), nobody is wearing that stuff and they shouldn't. They killed themselves off with the pedo vibes, I'm so glad I didn't spend any money there. Regarding jewelry, I think the Van Cleef & Arpels bracelets will take the place of the Hermès bracelet in the next three years. I also think LV and Dior went into overkill over the last five years for profit, now when I see the brand it feels cheap. Hopefully new brands or 'quieter' existing brands will have a moment now without all of the over exposure. Lastly, the McQueen scarf is in the back of every millennial's closet 🤣

I understand that some may disagree, but I don't see the logic in the idea that employees of luxury brands should be paid significantly more. Are you suggesting that mass-market brands like Kate Spade, Furla, Michael Kors, or even Zara justify their lower prices by using sweatshops? While luxury brands might offer slightly higher salaries, no company is going to pay workers 10-20 times more just because it's Dior. The price difference between a $200 bag from a mass-market brand and a $5000 luxury brand bag isn't due to massive differences in wages. Even well-known brands like Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Furla operate as businesses, meaning they aim to keep costs, including salaries, as competitive as possible. It's unrealistic to think that workers at these brands earn $70K per year while luxury brand workers earn $1-$1.5 million. The same goes for materials. Luxury brands might use materials that are somewhat superior, but it's fair to assume the quality might be 20% or even 50% better, but not enough to justify the huge price difference. This is why counterfeit items can be so convincing; the materials don't cost that much more. Plus, let's consider another aspect: sweatshops are undeniably horrible, and any company, should be harshly punished for using them if they did do that. But if we imagine a scenario where these products are made in factories with normal working conditions, do we really think the production cost would be that much higher compared to the retail price? If a sweatshop sold a bag to Dior for $57 and still made a profit, a bag made under normal conditions might cost $100-$150. Is that significant when compared to the $5000 retail price? Would you still be as upset with Dior or any other luxury brand if the bag cost slightly more to produce but was still sold at such a high markup? We need to be honest with ourselves. If we believe luxury brands justify their prices solely through higher wages and materials, we're seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. We should approach luxury goods with open eyes, acknowledging that while the cost to produce them is a fraction of the retail price, we choose to buy them anyway because they fulfill us in some way. And that's okay, because it's our money and we can spend it on whatever we feel like. But let's just do it with grace, like adults. Otherwise, we're just asking to be deceived left and right.

To ridicule anyone for having discerning taste is at best laughable. At worst, overconsumption at any sector tends to be rooted in outside perception.

So many of these luxury retail brands are not making money. Business decisions are often just that. I wouldn’t say luxury pricing isn’t to price out a demographic. It’s to uphold standards, cover cost of production and craftsmanship. It’s about their margin to maintain that. Also all the brands mentioned aren’t luxury, they are mid-tier.

That's the reason why i scrutinised on the products very well and whispered to myself that the prices are not worth the quality, and get out of the store once i couldn't get the quality i want. That's the reason why I'm thinking to have my own brand of first class quality in an affordable prices.

Let’s hope LVMH conducts serious measures on labour ethics in production of their brands and consider price reductions to avoid killing these long time famous brands. Balenciaga is dead for me. I believe those ads were a test to see how low people would go for an object they lusted after. The message in those ads was clear. Demented. It says everything about a person's character if they choose to "forget" it. Exploitation of adult labour is a separate matter. It, too, ends my relationship with a company. We have to draw the line to support ethical standards.

Well.... Honestly there is NO difference from how cheap bags are made to how those ugly Jordans are made. Also, I noticed when asked if these consumers invest in LVMH, Nike, or any other company that produces these items.. they usually look with confusion
